1. Refrigerators and freezers should be completely defrosted and dried out. They should be stored with the door slightly open. As this is additional space you can store small items and boxes inside. Make sure stoves are pre-cleaned before storing. They are large and bulky and can withstand boxes stacked on top.
2. Books and paperwork are heavy. Do not overload boxes. Use smaller boxes (available from Addspace Heated Self Storage). Do Not pack breakable items with books.
3. Fabrics and clothing should be stored on hangers or wardrobe cartons (available from Addspace Heated Self Storage). When storing furniture, these items can be folded and placed into empty drawers that help protect your items.
4. When storing dishes and glassware, wrapping is essential. Newspaper ink tends to be very messy and rubs off onto the surface. To prevent this, try using unprinted paper (available from Addspace Heated self-Storage) to wrap your items. Stack indvidually wrapped plates. Do not overload your boxes, and Do Not store anything on top of glass items. Excess space in a box should be filled with packing material.
6. Sofa’s and mattresses can stand on end providing there is something on the floor to protect them. Never lay upholstered objects directly on the floor. Items that can be disassembled should be, with their components wrapped for storage. Items, such as tables, that cannot be disassembled can be placed right side up, to allow room for boxes or small items under the table, and lighter pieces on top of the table. Remember to always cover furniture and mattresses with lightweight covers (available from Addspace Heated Self Storage). Old blankets, sheets, and cotton fabrics work well.
6. For Holiday Decorations, wrap fragile omaments and place in individual boxes. These can then be placed in larger boxes that should be lined with a packing material, e.g. Newspaper or bubble wrap. Wrap your lights individually and store separately from your ornaments.
7. Wrap lamp bases with a packing material e.g. bubble wrap, or layers of tissue.
Newspaper ink is damaging to lampshades and should not be used. Store
carefully in boxes large enough to accommodate the base and shade separately.
Take care not to store heavy items on top of boxes containing bases or shades.
8. For Mirrors, Flat Glass Or Paintings, store on edge, not flat. (Addspace
Heated Self Storage has boxes for those oversized mirrors and paintings).
9. Stereo and Computer equipment are best stored in original boxes, if possible. Use Styrofoam or bubble wrap to prevent movement in boxes and to secure all moving pieces.
